TRAVEL ALERT: Strong quake strikes Taiwan, prompts one-metre tsunami warning for Okinawa

Authorities have lifted tsunami advisory for Miyakojima, Yaeyama islands following 6.6 earthquake off Taiwan.

A strong earthquake has hit Taiwan and small islands in the far south of Japan, prompting a warning of a  one-metre tsunami for the Okinawa islands at around 11.43am AEST.

The quake was measured at 6.8 magnitude, and was felt across the island including the capital of Taipei. There have been no immediate reports of serious damage or injuries.
