TRAVEL ALERT: Flights cancelled and airports closed in North QLD ahead of cyclone

Severe Tropical Cyclone Marcia is forecast to make landfall as a Category 5 storm early on 20 February between Mackay and Gladstone in Queensland. Please note the following disruption to travel in the affected areas:

  • Virgin has cancelled all of its flights in and out of Bundaberg, Gladstone, Hervey Bay, Mackay and Rockhampton and has urged travellers to check their flight status.
  • Qantas has suspended flights to and from Bundaberg and Hervey Bay. They have also advised that flights are likely to be impacted for customers travelling to and from Brisbane, Hamilton Island, Rockhampton, Mackay, Gladstone, Coolangatta, Biloela, Blackall, Barcaldine and Long Reach.
  • Jetstar has also advised that flights to and from Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Mackay and Hamilton Island are most likely to be affected.
  • Rockhampton Airport and Mackay Airport are both closed. Sunshine Coast Airport and Brisbane Airport remain open for now.
