TRAVEL ADVISORY: Canada to introduce eTA system for visa waiver travellers

By 12 June 2015March 3rd, 2022News, Travel Advisory

From 1 March 2016, all visa waiver travellers flying to or from Canada will need to register on a new Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) system prior to checking-in to their flights.

Airline passengers will be required to register their passport details via a new eTA website and pay a CAD$7 processing charge. Most applications will receive approval within minutes; valid for up to five years or until the passenger’s passport expires (whichever comes first), and cover an unlimited number of trips during that period.

The eTA system will begin accepting applications from 1 August 2015, and compulsory for all visa waiver travellers from 1 March 2016.

Canadian and US passport holders, and those with Canadian work or study visas are exempted from obtaining eTAs.
